"Desert Dream"

Words & Music by James Nihan

I dreamed I lay down
Upon the ground
And I was dreaming
I was standing
In the desert
Facing you
The purple painted sky
Was in your eye
And in the other
Of this dreamer
Passing through

We walked hand in hand
Across the sand
Of present moments
In the springtime
When saguaros
Are in bloom
The yellow petals danced
As they romanced
Us ever closer
Till our spirits
Even tasted
Their perfume

We came to a ledge
And past the edge
Continued walking
Never falling
Leaving footprints
In the air
Turning toward the cliff
I wondered if
It really happened
And I noticed
We were lying
Over there

Like two lizards shedding skins
Letting go of who we'd been
Both emerging from within
Starting over again
And again and again and again

I dreamed I awoke
And when we spoke
Our lips were silent
But with heartbeats
We were talking
Right out loud
Rising side by side
While eagles cried
A song of freedom
From our slumber
On the pillow
Of a cloud
